The story
The red barn on Ganttown Road in Washington Township came down on October 7. For years it held Antiques Only, a two-story shop where several dealers sold antiques and decor. The property, about 15 acres near the Black Horse Pike, was once part of a 60-acre vegetable farm.
Washington Township's housing plan, adopted by the planning board in March, lists the land for 60 homes with no age restriction. Nine of them are set aside as affordable to low- and moderate-income households, one of those for a very-low-income household.
An earlier plan would have kept the barn as an arts and crafts studio and built townhomes for buyers 55 and over. The zoning board denied it, the developer took the township to court, and the township approved a settlement in December 2025.
The barn is gone, but neither a layout of the homes nor a date for building to begin has been reported yet.
