The story
The vacant Taco Bell on the Black Horse Pike had been empty for about a dozen years when it came down on the morning of Aug. 11. Township officials and dozens of residents were there to watch. The council president made the demolition a community event, and the mayor took the first pieces off the building from the seat of the excavator.
A local demolition contractor had the core of the building flat in about 15 minutes and sorted the metal for recycling. The building likely dated to the late 1970s.
Next on the lot is a Take 5 Oil Change. The Planning Board approved a 1,705 square foot facility with three service bays, a plan first reported in February. A sign on the site reads Take 5 Oil Change, Coming Soon, 5500 Route 42, Black Horse Pike. Take 5 already operates in Lindenwold, Lawnside and Edgewater Park.

Our take
A small lot empty for a dozen years found a national single-tenant user and cleared the Planning Board this year. If you own a vacant lot on the Black Horse Pike or a road like it, this is who is buying lots like yours.
